Barcelona will not pay €80 million to sign Bernardo Silva

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has insisted that the Blaugrana will not pay €80 million to sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City.

In a recent interview with Cadena SER, Joan Laporta has insisted that Barcelona will not break the bank for Bernardo Silva. The Barcelona president reaffirmed that the Blaugrana will not fork out €80 million for the Manchester City playmaker. In addition, he spoke about another player representing the Premier League champions.

Responding to the questions by listeners, Laporta said, “Bernardo Silva for €80 million will surely not come… because we will not pay them. I hear that Haaland’s father is saying that after a while at City maybe… but we’ll see how it evolves, for now we do our thing, that Lewandowski is doing very well.”

Bernardo Silva has been one of the best playmakers in the Premier League since joining Manchester City from AS Monaco. The Portuguese international was already a highly-rated star back then. But his stock has skyrocketed in the last five and a half years.

The 28-year-old has made nearly 300 appearances thus far for Manchester City, chipping in with 50 goals and 56 assists. But widespread reports have suggested that Silva wants to embark on a new adventure in the summer. And such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona.

The Catalan giants hold a long-standing interest in the Manchester City playmaker. And Barcelona attempted to sign the Portuguese international in the summer transfer window. But after failing to offload Frenkie de Jong, Barcelona decided to cool the move for Silva. However, the interest in the player remains.

Recent reports have suggested that Manchester City might be open to selling Silva but will ask for €80 million to part ways with him. And with Barcelona’s financial troubles not ending, it is hardly surprising that they are hesitant to pay the required sum. But such a stance might hand a boost to Real Madrid.

Recent reports have suggested that the reigning La Liga champions are also interested in the 28-year-old. And Real Madrid might not have any qualms about shelling out €80 million to sign Silva. But it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can get Manchester City to compromise on the asking price.
