A host of European clubs have reportedly expressed an interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with Arsenal open to the striker’s exit this month.
According to Sky Sports, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is attracting plenty of attention despite a difficult few months at Arsenal. PSG, Juventus and AC Milan have all expressed an interest in the former Arsenal captain, who also has an offer from the Middle East.
It has been a difficult few months for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, personally and professionally. Since a visible drop off in form, Mikel Arteta’s frustration with the striker boiled over, forcing the Arsenal manager to strip him of the captaincy in early December.
In addition, Arteta has dropped the striker altogether from his plans and the team has fared well in Aubameyang’s absence. The Gunners have been prolific and getting results during this period before the former Arsenal captain left the club earlier than many others bound for Cameroon to join up with his Gabon teammates for the Africa Cup of Nations.
However, things have not gone to plan with the national team either as Aubameyang returned early from the tournament without featuring in the tournament. The 32-year-old contracted COVID-19 right before the competition began, and has since been diagnosed with a heart lesion problem due to the virus.
Tests conducted upon his return to England have revealed no further problems with his heart or health, and Aubameyang could resume training with Arsenal soon, with chances of a return to the Gabonese national side slim at the moment. However, his future at Arsenal is in major doubt, with the north Londoners prepared to entertain offers for the striker this month.
Arsenal are hot on the trails of Dusan Vlahovic, with the Serb considered a replacement for Aubameyang. Several clubs have shown an interest in signing Aubameyang, including Newcastle United, who have recently signed Chris Wood to solve their issues up front.
In the last few days, more clubs have expressed an interest, starting with Middle East club Al Nassr, who have submitted an offer to sign Aubameyang on loan. While Arsenal ponder accepting the offer, there are clubs in Europe that are willing to make an offer to sign the 32-year-old striker, with PSG, Juventus and AC Milan all reportedly interested.
The Serie A clubs have been looking at loan deals for a few strikers, considering their finances are depleted at the moment. However, with Aubameyang earning a huge salary at Arsenal, it is difficult to see the Serie A giants matching that at the moment.
PSG and Newcastle United are the best placed clubs financially to meet the player’s demands and could make an offer soon, probably with an option or obligation to buy him at the end of the tenure. The Ligue 1 heavyweights are somewhat looking to sign a new front-man who is a reliable goalscorer amid uncertainties surrounding Mauro Icardi as they have a Champions League campaign to look forward to.
While Arsenal will be eager to take Aubameyang’s wages off their books, they will also look forward to a financially viable package to offload him once and for all. All the prospective suitors could be good options to consider for Aubameyang, and he looks increasingly likely to leave Arsenal as there is little chance of him playing for the club again under Arteta.
