Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has reportedly emerged as a shock summer target for PSG, who are eyeing further reinforcements in attack.

According to a report by reliable Parisian outlet Paris United, PSG are looking to bolster their strike options in the coming summer transfer window. The Ligue 1 heavyweights have set their sights on Alvaro Morata and are plotting a shock summer swoop for the Chelsea striker.

Morata joined Chelsea last summer after an underwhelming second stint with boyhood club Real Madrid. The player had initially began his career with the Blues in promising fashion, staking a claim to win the Golden Boot in the Premier League.

But, things have gone pear-shaped over the last couple of months, with injury and poor form affecting Morata’s goalscoring form. In all, the Spaniard has just 12 goals and 4 assists in 31 appearances across all competitions, and his Chelsea future is now starting to come under scrutiny.

PSG are looking to sign a striker in the coming summer transfer window in order to strengthen an already formidable attack. Sporting director Antero Henrique has recognised the need to add a strong backup to Edinson Cavani who, at 30, does not have many more years of top level football left in him.

The Uruguayan, though, has been in fine form this season, breaking the scoring record at PSG, while also leading the race to win the Golden Boot in Ligue 1. But, Henrique has now identified Chelsea striker Morata as one of the primary summer targets for PSG.

The Spain international’s slump in form has not fazed Les Parisiens, who believe that Morata can become a key figure at Parc des Princes. But, the player himself could be a little hesitant to make the switch considering he will be leaving a certain first-choice role at Chelsea to possibly become a backup once again, a role he was desperate to get away from at Real Madrid.

The flipside is that he could soon become the first-choice at PSG in a few years’ time, although it remains to be seen how enticing that prospect would be. As far as Chelsea are concerned, they will look to recoup a sizeable transfer fee, possibly higher than the £60 million they shelled out last summer for him.

PSG need to balance their books as well following the big money moves for Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, with the latter coming into effect in the coming summer. It will now be interesting to see if Morata becomes the latest big name player to make his way to PSG, or if he continues at Chelsea.
