Steven Gerrard Set To Join MLS Club LA Galaxy

Liverpool FC: Need For Left-Sided Reinforcement & Rotating Gerrard & Sturridge

The inevitable has finally been confirmed, Liverpool’s captain Steven Gerrard is set to join MLS club LA Galaxy, at the end of this season. Steven Gerrard, who refused to sign a contract extension with Liverpool, has been in the thick of transfer speculations, ever since he refused the extension. Gerrard, was wildly linked with any club in the European periphery and some fanatics even linked the robust midfielder to fellow English side Manchester City. Although with Gerrard announcing that the he will leave Liverpool at the end of this season, MLS club La Galaxy have announced that the Liverpool captain will join them, ESPN confirms.

USA’s Major League Soccer, has been termed as a league for the retired, by many skeptics. The MLS featured players such as Thierry Henry and David Beckham, after their prolific playing days were coming to an end. The league will eventually be on its way to outgrowing that reputation, but for now it more or less fits, and it seemed a good fit for Gerrard, and, depending on the location, would offer a change of pace from a place he had lived and played his entire life.

Los Angeles Galaxy were always the front runner, with Landon Donovan retiring from an excellent playing career and vacating a designated playing spot in the process. Gerrard, is expected to fit into LA Galaxy’s midfield.

Although official confirmation from both Liverpool and Steven Gerrard is pending, it is merely a case of formality. Gerrard, is yet to agree personal terms with the MLS club side.

“I’m not over the line with any team yet. I’m close and as soon as I know, I’ll make the announcement,” said Gerrard.

Gerrard, will join LA Galaxy, in the middle of their season and it will interesting to see how the Liverpool captain fits into their midfield.

With Steven Gerrard’s departure announcement, thousands of Liverpool supporters have been left heart broken. Gerrard spent his entire career with Liverpool, after making his first start for the red side of Merseyside in 1998. Gerrard, was responsible for Liverpool’s miraculous UEFA Champions League triumph in Istanbul.
