Manchester City seem to love Chelsea players. Well, former in this case. The Sky Blues are linked with former Blue, Kevin de Bruyne. The Belgian international currently plies his trade for Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg.
Highly rated since his young days, the attacker made a move from Genk to Chelsea in January 2012 for a fee rumoured to be in the region of A?7 million. He was loaned back to Genk for the remainder of the season. In the 12-13 season, the player was loaned to Werder Bremen and enjoyed a successful spell where he scored 10 goals in 33 league appearances. It seemed that after his great loan spell, he would be used by the Blues, but that was not the case and the player made 3 league appearances and nine in total for Chelsea till January and the 23 year put an end to his unsuccessful time at the London club in January 2014 as he signed for Wolfsburg for a fee of A?18 million. The player needed regular game time to ensure that he is taken to Brazil with Belgium, and courtesy of that at the German club, de Bruyne was part of the Red Devils side that went to Brazil and started four out of five matches.
The 23 year old is enjoying regular game time and proving his worth forAi??Die WolfeAi??and currently has three goals and ten assists to his name in the league. He is an integral part of the Wolfsburg side enjoying a terrific season.
His good form is certainly getting the attention it deserves andAi??Ai??The MirrorAi??claimed that Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has lined up the Belgian “as a must-have-addition to his squad”. Another British media outfit, Daily MailAi??confidently chimes in that de Bruyne’sAi??Belgium team-mate Kompany has ‘given the 23-year-old a ringing endorsement to City manager Manuel Pellegrini’. They have further elaborated, ‘It is understood that Kompany has told Pellegrini and City sporting director Txiki Begiristain that not only is De Bruyne talented enough to play for the club but also has the right attitude and personality’.
It seems that the player wouldn’t be going anywhere easily though, as agent Patrick de Koster and Wolfsburg member chairman Francisco Javier Garcia Sanz have both have reiterated the fact.
“We have not talked to anyone from the Manchester City camp,” De Koster said. “Kevin is happy to be in Wolfsburg.”
Garcia Sanz added that “calling us because of Kevin is a waste of time.”
It is however believed that Pellegrini will not be bringing in the A?30m ratedAi??player this January, and in any case, he is not in dire need of attackers at the moment. He has listed the Belgian as one of the prime targets in the summer transfer window next year.
