Hargreaves undergoes medical at Man City!
THT Verdict: Hargreaves hasn’t played competitive football for more than two seasons if you discount the 8 minute salvo against Wolves last season. Man City would have offered the Canadian born Englishmen a pay-as-per-you-play deal considering his fondness to the treatment table. But moving to the Blue half of Manchester wouldn’t be seen too kindly among the United “ultras”, it’s a divide you simply cannot cross. But from the player’s perspective, Hargreaves will be given a new lease of life and wouldn’t even have to shift base from the city. But one must wonder how often will Owen Hargreaves get to play, considering City have a lot of other options in midfield. This one is bound to raise a few eyebrows.
French club Lille are weighing up a bid for Chelsea’s Salomon Kalou after the Ivory Coast striker slipped further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Romelu Lukaku.
THT Verdict:Likely. Kalou is one of the few Chelsea players linked with a move away from the Bridge on deadline day. All these years, Kalou has been a decent impact sub for Chelsea, however, with the club signing more forwards, his purpose on the team has reduced. Although he is on less wages, it would be better for his career if he moves to a club where he will start regularly. Also, Chelsea can free up one foreign player slot. The Ivory Coast international can also be used as a make-weight in any deal.
Sunderland are making a club-record £14m bid for Freiburg striker Papiss Demba Cisse and may also look to recruit Manchester United forward Federico Macheda on loan.
THT Verdict: Sunderland have so far flattered to decieve even though the Black Cats have had a squad overhaul. Steve Bruce does need reinforcements in the striking department as Gyan hasn’t quite hit the ground running where as new recruit Wickham might take some time to make the step up from Championship level. Macheda on the other hand
needs to get some quality playing time under his belt so that he can take the next step in his development. At Man United, the Italian won’t feature in the first XI and most probably not even make the bench. This move could go ahead, considering the plethora of former United players already at the Stadium of light Macheda shouldn’t have any problems settling in.
