Tottenham closely monitoring Mohammed Kudus

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping close tabs on highly-talented Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus as they plot a move for the youngster.

According to GhanaWeb, Tottenham Hotspur have been closely monitoring the situation of AFC Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus as they look to add the 22-year-old to their roster.

Kudus began his footballing journey at the Right to Dream Academy in his homeland before securing a move to Europe in 2018 when he joined Danish club FC Nordsjaelland. The young midfielder starred brightly in his two seasons in Denmark, bagging 14 goals and three assists in 57 matches, leading to interest from many top clubs across Europe.

However, Ajax beat the rest of the interested parties to capture the signing of Kudus in 2020. The 22-year-old suffered a serious injury soon after arriving in the Netherlands and missed a good chunk of the 2020/21 campaign, while he was bogged down by injury problems in last term as well.

As a result, the midfielder has featured only 43 times for Ajax in two years, scoring six times and assisting four goals. But despite his injury issues, Kudus remains a talent widely appreciated by clubs, and Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on the Ghanaian international over a possible transfer.

Tottenham have had a brilliant transfer window so far as Antonio Conte has gone all out to add quality and depth to his roster. Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet (loan) and Djed Spence have all arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, but the Italian tactician remains on the lookout for more signings.

A new attacking midfielder with goalscoring and playmaking abilities seems to be on Tottenham’s agenda, evident by their interest in Nicolo Zaniolo. But with Juventus also in the mix for his signing, someone like Kudus can be seen as an alternative for the Italian international, given that the 22-year-old is capable of playing as a No. 8 and a No. 10, while he has also been used as a centre-forward on occasions.

As per the report, Tottenham have been keeping tabs on Kudus’s situation over the past six months and are hoping to capitalise on his lack of game-time at Ajax by offering him a way out. Considering that none of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, Oliver Skipp and Bissouma is a goalscoring midfielder, signing a player of Kudus’s abilities would make sense for the Lilywhites.

However, the report specifies that the Ghanaian international is not seen as an utmost priority, and the north London club would go after the midfielder next summer if they fail to sign him this year.
