Newcastle United will look to sign 20-year-old Cameroonian internaitonal Christian Kofane from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen next year.
According to a report by Pete O’Rourke on Football Insider, Newcastle United are unlikely to launch a move for Christian Kofane in the January transfer window, but they are likely to step up their interest next summer. The Magpies are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker, and they have their sights set on the 20-year-old Bayer Leverkusen centre-forward.
Per Football Insider, Kofane is interested in “making the move to the Premier League in the near future”. Pete O’Rourke said, “There’s potentially an opportunity for Kofane to make the move to the Premier League, that’s something he would be open to. As you said, there was interest in the summer and Newcastle did have a look at Kofane, but Bayer Leverkusen didn’t really want to lose him in that window.”
Who is Christian Kofane?
Christian Kofane has established himself as one of the best young strikers in the Bundesliga since joining Bayer Leverkusen from Albacete in July 2025. Though the 20-year-old was not highly productive in his debut season with Die Werkself, he has shown flashes of brilliance thus far. The Cameroonian international has made 50 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen thus far while chipping in with 10 goals and 9 assists.
Kofane has been impressive at the onset of the 2026/27 season despite not being a first-choice starter, having scored three goals in only 178 minutes of game time. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has provoked interest from several well-known clubs, particularly from the Preimer League.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Christian Kofane has been on Newcastle United’s radar for an extended period. The continued interest is logical, as Yoane Wissa and William Osula are the only specialist strikers in Matthias Jaissle’s squad. While Osula has struggled with fitness issues throughout his stint with Newcastle, Wissa has yet to prove himself as a reliable striker.
Several strikers hve thus emerged on Newcastle United’s wishlist, and recent reports have claimed that they are ready to launch a bid to sign the Bayer Leverkusen striker next year. While a January pursuit is unlikely, the report has revealed that they are increasingly likely to make a move in the summer transfer window.
The report makes no mention of a potential asking price from Bayer Leverkusen. However, Kofane’s contract talks are reportedly at an impasse, meaning Newcastle United stand to capitalise on a rare window to bring in a long-term striker solution next summer.
