Barcelona and Newcastle United are keen on signing 28-year-old Colombian international Luis Suarez from Sporting CP next year.
According to a reporty by German outlet Fussball News, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest are closely monitoring Luis Suarez’s progress at Sporting CP. The two Premier League clubs are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a striker next year, and they have set their sights on the 28-year-old Sporting CP centre-forward.
Per Fussball News, no concrete negotiations have taken place thus far, with Suarez’s three prospective suitors yet to go beyond tracking his progress. Meanwhile, Sporting CP will demand €80 million, the value of his release clause, to part ways with the South American striker.
How has Luis Suarez performed for Sporting CP?
Luis Suarez has become a household name since joining Sporting CP from UD Almeria in July 2025. The 28-year-old went under the radar in his formative years and most of his professional career. However, he has become one of the world’s most prolific strikers over the last 15 months.
The Colombian international scored 38 goals and provided nine assists in 53 appearances across all competitions last season. However, Suarez failed to carry that form into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, though he has rediscovered his best touch this term. The player has seven goals and one assist in eight outings thus far, and his exploits have provoked interest from several high-profile clubs.
A man in demand
Newcastle United wanted to sign Luis Suarez in the summer transfer window, but a deal did not materialise. The continued interest is understandable, as Yoane Wissa is the only specialist striker in Matthias Jaissle’s squad.
Recent reports have suggested that Woltemade is ready to force a summer move away from St. James’ Park. As for Wissa, the Tyneside outfit may sanction his departure after only one season. So, with William Osula the only other option at Howe’s disposal, the Magpies need a new striker.
