Manchester United not planning late move for Jorge Salinas

Manchester United have no plans to make a late move for Racing Santander full-back Jorge Salinas.

Jorge Salinas’s proposed transfer to Atletico Madrid is on the brink of collapsing, but Manchester United will still not be reviving their pursuit of the Racing Santander left-back in the final hours of deadline day.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Manchester United have monitored the 19-year-old left-back throughout the transfer window but have ruled out a move for the Spanish youth international.

Salinas had seemingly been on the verge of joining Atletico Madrid, but that transfer won’t be going through. Racing Santander have brought in another left-back on deadline day, while Atletico have reportedly turned their attention towards a potential loan move for Nicolas Tagliafico.

Salinas looks set to stay at Racing Santander

Atletico Madrid’s failure to offload squad players has complicated their pursuit of Salinas, leaving the teenager’s future uncertain as the transfer deadline approaches. Despite his potential availability and Manchester United’s ongoing need for a natural left-back, the club have ruled out pursuing him.

Luke Shaw remains the only established senior option in the position, while Patrick Dorgu has frequently been deployed further forward on the left. Harry Amass is another option, but the youngster could leave Old Trafford on loan before the window closes amid his links with West Ham United as Manchester United look to give him regular first-team football elsewhere.

While Shaw did start all their league games last season, they have European commitments this time around, and the English international’s injury track record suggests another option at left-back would have been ideal.

Salinas would have represented an investment for the future and also cover for Shaw. The teenager has started all three of their La Liga games this season, and also impressed last season in the second division. He was involved in 33 league games and played a big part in their promotion to the top flight.

His performances enhanced his reputation and attracted a significant amount of interest. While quite a few clubs have been linked with him, Salinas might not get a move this summer. The €16 million release clause in his contract does make a potential transfer quite straightforward, but with Atletico Madrid’s pursuit collapsing and United deciding against making a move, he looks set to stay at Racing.
