VfB Stuttgart will attempt to rebuff late offers for 28-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international Ermedin Demirovic this summer.
According to a report by Football Insider, Ermedin Demirovic remains the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a striker in the final days of the ongoing transfer window, and they have their sights set on the 28-year-old VfB Stuttgart centre-forward.
However, a late move for the Stuttgart striker is unlikely to materialise, as per Football Insider, the Swabians are “reluctant to sell” him and “do not want to entertain offers at this late stage” of the transfer window. The report has also revealed interest from elsewhere, with Galatasaray keen on signing the experienced striker.
Ermedin Demirovic and his Bundesliga adventure
Ermedin Demirovic has become a household name for Bundesliga fans in the last half a decade. The 28-year-old spent his formative years in Germany and returned to the country in August 2020 when SC Freiburg signed him from Deportivo Alaves. He has since represented FC Augsburg and VfB Stuttgart, joining Die Schwaben in July 2024.
While not an undisputed first-choice starter, the Bosnia and Herzegovina international has been impressive for Stuttgart and amassed 15 goals and five assists in only 2,367 minutes of game time across 38 outings last season. His progress has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, with Leeds United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Ermedin Demirovic has been on Leeds United’s wishlist for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, as the Whites have sanctioned Joel Piroe’s loan move to West Ham United. Additionally, Lukas Nmecha has only impressed in fits and starts, leaving Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the only reliable striker in Daniel Farke’s squad.
With Leeds United eager to challenge for European qualification this season, they need more quality in the final third. So, after signing Harry Wilson, they want a striker who can alternate with Calvert-Lewin whenever required. Demirovic has thus emerged as a viable target, though it has now emerged that a summer move may not materialise.
Apart from VfB Stuttgart’s reluctance to sell the Bosnia and Herzegovina international, the player’s reported contentment at the Bundesliga club has also been a stumbling block for Leeds United and other prospective suitors. So, the West Yorkshire outfit must now realign focus and identify an alternative to pursue in the final days of the summer transfer window.
