Villarreal are firmly pushing to cement their place in the top four of La Liga, as they currently sit third heading into the weekend. One of their key performers has been Pape Gueye, with the Senegalese midfielder proving he is ready for a higher level, specifically the Premier League.
The 27-year-old holding midfielder has interest from some Premier League teams, with Manchester United previously considering signing him. The Red Devils are in the market to reinforce their midfield area, and they are looking at multiple signings in the position.
Manchester United reportedly view Gueye as a replacement for Casemiro, with the latter set to depart the club when his contract expires in the summer. The player would be tempted by the prospect of playing in the Premier League, with the Red Devils reportedly lining up a move closer to his €45 million release clause in his Villarreal contract.
Villarreal would be open to the idea of a sale, as his departure for the price range mentioned above would mean total profit, given Gueye arrived on a free transfer last summer. Gueye is certainly not the only name on their list, as they are likely looking into the market for multiple midfield signings. While they are targeting a high-profile name from a host of options, it is only logical to think they could try for someone like the 27-year-old Villarreal midfielder, alongside links to others like Sporting CP’s Morten Hjulmand.
Manchester United are also interested in Noah Sadiki, while there are other names on their radar in addition to a big-name midfielder like Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, or Carlos Baleba. As for the Gueye links, there could be some truth to them, as the signing of the Villarreal star might make sense for their plans.
