Barcelona stepping up interest in Eduardo Conceicao, face Chelsea, Manchester City threat

Barcelona have intensified their efforts to sign Palmeiras sensation Eduardo Conceicao, amidst interest from Chelsea and Manchester City.

Eduardo Conceicao has had a sensational rise at Palmeiras, and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed. Multiple top clubs from across Europe have their eyes set on the teenage attacking sensation.

According to a report from Fichajes, Barcelona are keen on his signature and have stepped up their interest in the 16-year-old. They are set to face stiff competition from Premier League duo Manchester City and Chelsea.

Having failed to secure the services of Endrick or Estevao in the past, the Catalan giants are determined to beat the competition to Conceicao’s signature. They have decided to take the initiative and push hard for the left-winger, who has done wonders at the South American Under-17 Championship.

Heading into the semi-finals against Colombia, the youngster has four goals in as many outings. Meanwhile, he has been a standout performer for Palmeiras’ Under-20 side, with eight goal contributions in his 13 outings.

While Conceicao prefers playing out wide on the left flank, he is comfortable enough to feature in any position in the final third. He has a tall frame at 1.79m, is quick on the turf and loves taking on defenders. His impressive performances for club and country have put him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

European giants are gearing up for a bidding war

The 16-year-old can’t move to Europe until the end of 2027, and his current contract has a massive €100 million release clause. But Palmeiras are willing to negotiate at around €50 million (including add-ons).

Barcelona are keen on reaching a pre-agreement with the Brazilian club as soon as possible, as they want to avoid a situation where his value goes even higher. While they are optimistic that the player’s desire to play for them will turn the tide their way, Manchester City and Chelsea are ready to flex their financial power to lure him to England.

While Barcelona have intensified contact with his camp and the Brazilian club’s board, City and Chelsea have also made formal enquiries. The Manchester-based giants have reportedly made significant progress in talks with Palmeiras and have put forward a €40 million offer.

The Spanish club have been scouting him since before the famous Copinha tournament, but given the competition for his services, it will be interesting to see if they can strike a deal for him.
