Enzo Fernandez closer to Real Madrid move than Rodri

Chelsea mainstay Enzo Fernandez is reportedly likelier to join Real Madrid instead of Manchester City midfielder Rodri in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet MARCA, Enzo Fernandez and Rodri are the subjects of interest from Real Madrid. The Spanish giants are keen on bolstering their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder in the coming months. However, the Chelsea mainstay is closer to joining Los Blancos instead of the Real Madrid star.

As relayed by MARCA, Raul Varela provided the latest update, saying, “Enzo is much closer to Real Madrid, Rodri has no chance of going to Real Madrid. Today, the president of Real Madrid doesn’t want to sign him. I hate transfer news because everything changes every fifteen minutes, but today the president of Real Madrid is not going to sign Rodri Hernández.”

Enzo Fernandez and Rodri: Two of the best in the Premier League

Enzo Fernandez has been one of the most dependable midfielders in the Premier League since joining Chelsea from SL Benfica in January 2023. Despite enduring some teething problems, the 25-year-old has grown to become an ever-present in the middle of the park for the West London club in the last three years.

The Argentine international has been exceptional in the 2025/26 season thus far, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists in 46 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Rodri has established himself as one of the world’s best players since joining Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in July 2019.

The Spanish international has won every trophy with Manchester City while guiding Spain to UEFA Euro 2024 before lifting the Ballon d’Or. While the 29-year-old has not been at his best since returning from a long-term knee injury, his stock remains high. Rodri and Enzo Fernandez are targets for Real Madrid this summer.

Who will join Real Madrid this year?

Real Madrid’s interest in Enzo Fernandez and Rodri makes sense. The Spanish giants are combing the market for a versatile midfielder heading into the summer transfer window, as they have struggled for productivity since Luka Modric and Toni Kroos ended their spells at the Santiago Bernabeu. Additionally, they need more solidity in the middle of the park, with the defence often coming under pressure.

Widespread reports have claimed that Rodri is ready to join Real Madrid, while Enzo Fernandez recently teased a possible move to the Spanish capital. However, the Manchester City mainstay is behind the Chelsea midfielder in the battle to become Real Madrid’s star midfield signing in the coming months. However, with a deal not certain yet, the race will become more intense in the weeks leading up to the upcoming window.
