Newcastle United will reportedly look to sign 26-year-old Colombian international Cucho Hernandez from Real Betis in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Cucho Hernandez is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 26-year-old Colombian international has emerged as a target for the Tyneside outfit.
The latest report has revealed that the 2024/25 EFL Cup winners are the front-runners to sign the South American attacker in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Real Betis will demand around €35 million to part ways with Hernandez, and only “a substantial offer could change their decision” in the coming months.
Who is Cucho Hernandez?
Cucho Hernandez has made significant progress since joining Real Betis from Columbus Crew in February 2025. Born in Pereira, the 26-year-old spent his formative years in Colombia and graduated from the youth division at Deportivo Pereira. Since then, the player has represented clubs in England, Spain, and the USA.
However, Hernandez has finally found a stable foothold during his spell with Real Betis. The Colombian international has been solid thus far in the 2025/26 season, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists in 29 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Newcastle United.
Premier League adventure beckons?
Newcastle United’s interest in Cucho Hernandez is understandable. The Magpies are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window, even though they signed two centre-forwards last summer. However, Yoane Wissa has struggled to make his mark since returning from a long-term knee injury.
Additionally, Nick Woltemade has fizzled out after a solid start to life at Newcastle United. Meanwhile, Woltemade and William Osula face an uncertain future at St. James’ Park, forcing the Tyneside outfit to scour the market for a striker. Several candidates, including Francesco Pio Esposito, have thus emerged on Newcastle United’s wishlist, with Hernandez also a viable target.
