Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United vying for Joao Gomes

Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing 25-year-old Brazilian prospect Joao Gomes from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Joao Gomes has piqued the attention of several high-profile Premier League clubs with his exploits for Wolverhampton Wanderers. Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United are interested in the Brazilian midfielder, and they are keen on securing his services in the summer transfer window.

How has Joao Gomes fared in the Premier League?

Joao Gomes has established himself as one of the most dependable midfielders in the Premier League since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers from Flamengo in January 2023. Born in Rio de Janeiro, the 25-year-old midfielder spent his formative years in his hometown and graduated from the youth division at Flamengo. However, he has risen in prominence at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Gomes has made over 100 appearances for Wolverhampton Wanderers thus far while chipping in with eight goals and six assists. Meanwhile, the Brazilian midfielder’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

A man in demand

Chelsea will dip into the market for a midfielder in the summer transfer window, as speculation is mounting around Enzo Fernandez’s long-term future. Additionally, Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo have struggled with fitness issues throughout the 2025/26 season. So, Gomes is a viable target for Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Liverpool mulled over signing Joao Gomes in the winter transfer window, but they eventually decided against a move. The continued interest makes sense, as Wataru Endo faces an uncertain future at Anfield. Several candidates have thus emerged on Liverpool’s wishlist, with Gomes also an option worth considering.

As for Manchester United, the Red Devils wanted to sign Gomes in the winter transfer window, but a deal did not materialise. The continued interest is understandable, as Casemiro will depart from Old Trafford as a free agent. Additionally, Manuel Ugarte has been inconsistent throughout his stint with Manchester United. So, Gomes is a viable target for the Red Devils.

Apart from the three Premier League giants, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have submitted enquiries to ask about his situation. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 25-year-old Brazilian international.
