Manchester City are leading the race for the signature of Chelsea and Manchester United attacking target Felix Nmecha.
Felix Nmecha’s sensational rise at Borussia Dortmund hasn’t gone unnoticed. Multiple top clubs in the Premier League are now keen on bringing him back to England. Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are all interested in the German midfielder’s services.
According to a report from Fichajes, former club Manchester City are front-runners to sign the 25-year-old. He hasn’t looked back since joining Dortmund, and he seems ready for a big-money move this summer.
Nmecha was a part of the City youth setup back in the day. He went up the ranks at some pace and even made his first-team debut. But he ended up parting ways with the club in 2021 in search of a more prominent role.
On the back of two impressive seasons at Wolfsburg, the 25-year-old made the move to Dortmund in the summer of 2023. The German giants were keen on having him in their ranks, and they forked out €30 million to make it happen.
Since joining Dortmund, he has been involved in over 100 matches and has even contributed towards 21 goals. While he prefers playing as a central midfielder, he has been equally effective in a deeper role. His consistent performances and massive potential have resulted in interest from the Premier League.
His ability to win back balls as well as initiate attacks has placed him on the radar of City, United and Chelsea. He has a strong physical presence and tends to make late runs into the box. He is already seen as a complete midfielder, and his market value has gone up to €70 million.
City want to bring Nmecha back to Manchester
Interested clubs will have to fork out that big a fee if they want to prise him away from the German club, as his contract there runs until the summer of 2028, giving them complete control over his future. City are the ones leading the race for his signature.
They intend to bring him back to the club in the summer, and the emotional bond between the two parties could play a big role. City value his versatility and believe he could be an ideal fit for Pep Guardiola’s team.
However, they could face stiff competition from Chelsea and Manchester United. The Blues consider him a perfect fit for their youth-centric project, and with Romeo Lavia struggling to stay fit, investing in Nmecha would surely make sense.
As far as United are concerned, they are gearing up for a major rebuild in midfield with Casemiro leaving and Manuel Ugarte likely to be sold. Nmecha could help cope with their departure. He could become an integral part of their long-term plans.
