Moussa Diaby is being linked with a return to England, with a host of clubs keeping tabs on the winger’s situation.
According to TEAMtalk, Diaby could be an option for some Premier League clubs, with the winger keen on a switch back to Europe or England. Sold for £50 million in 2024, the former Aston Villa star could have Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool monitoring his situation ahead of the summer.
Diaby was sold for £50 million in the summer of 2024 by Aston Villa, which might have been connected more to their PSR situation than anything on the sporting side. After arriving at Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, the Frenchman has been a useful addition, playing more as a creator than a goalscorer.
He has only eight goals to show for his time there, but his 29 assists confirm his role as a creator for the team. While the move to the Middle East has largely worked out for all parties concerned, Diaby could be angling for a move back to Europe, or even England, if a solid opportunity presents itself.
He was reportedly offered to several teams around January, including Aston Villa, with his former side still linked with a move, as per the report. However, there are more prominent English sides showing an interest in the winger, who has 16 goal contributions this season alone.
Tottenham were linked in January and, ahead of the summer, they might contemplate approaching the French winger if the conditions are suitable. Spurs do have quality players in the Frenchman’s preferred right-wing slot, although they may have contemplated a January move to cover for the injury to Mohammed Kudus.
Moussa Diaby back to the Premier League?
Tottenham could still show interest in bringing the Frenchman back to England, but they also face competition from London rivals Chelsea. The Stamford Bridge outfit are always looking for players who would improve their team, and there are questions over their current right-wing options, which could lead them towards Diaby as a potential target.
As for Liverpool’s reported interest, the Merseysiders might be looking widely for a Mohamed Salah replacement in the summer. While Diaby might be an option, and is seen as a profile close to what the Egyptian offers, other prominent names may be ahead of the Al-Ittihad winger at the moment.
