Manchester United and Newcastle United have reportedly joined Manchester City in the race to sign 21-year-old Italian full-back Michael Kayode from Brentford this year.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Newcastle United and Manchester United are interested in Michael Kayode. The Brentford full-back is also a target for Manchester City, with the high-flying Premier League club demanding over £50 million to part ways with the Italian wide player in the summer transfer window.
How has Michael Kayode fared at Brentford?
Michael Kayode has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League since joining Brentford from Fiorentina. The West London outfit initially signed the Borgomanero native on loan in January 2025 before completing a permanent move for £15 million in the subsequent summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old has been a mainstay at the back for Brentford, and he has amassed nearly 50 appearances for the West London club thus far, chipping in with one assist. Meanwhile, Kayode’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Newcastle United, Manchester City, and Manchester United are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Michael Carrick has two right-backs in his squad, with Diogo Dalot producing solid performances under his tutelage in recent weeks. However, the Portuguese international has been inconsistent throughout his stint with the Red Devils. So, signing a top-class right-back can serve Manchester United well, making Kayode a viable target.
Meanwhile, Michael Kayode has been on Manchester City’s wishlist for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, as the Citizens need a recognised right-back this year. With Rico Lewis failing to impress Pep Guardiola, Matheus Nunes has played as the first-choice right-back for most of the 2025/26 season. So, Kayode is an option worth considering for Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United have also monitored Kayode’s progress for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, as Kieran Trippier is on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of his career. Additionally, Trippier and Emil Krafth may depart from St. James’ Park this year. So, Kayode has emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United.
Meanwhile, Brentford will demand over £50 million to part ways with the 21-year-old Italian full-back in the summer transfer window. With Manchester United competing with Newcastle United and Manchester City for Kayode’s signature, the youngster’s spell with the high-flying Premier League club may end in a few months.
