Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing 22-year-old Spanish full-back Marc Pubill from La Liga Atletico Madrid.
Marc Pubill has done quite well, and he is valued at €80 million. According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Chelsea are hoping to get the deal done in the summer. It will be interesting to see if the Spanish club are willing to sanction his departure.
Pubill is capable of operating as a right-back as well as a wing-back. He could help out at both ends of the pitch. Chelsea need more quality in the team, but they have other priority areas they need to strengthen. They already have Malo Gusto and Reece James at their disposal. Signing another player in that area of the pitch would be a big surprise.
There is no doubt that the highly-rated Spanish full-back is a talented player, but he might not get regular opportunities at Chelsea. The move does not make a lot of sense for him either. The youngster needs to join a club where he will play regularly.
It will be interesting to see if Chelsea are willing to sell either Gusto or James in the summer. In that case, a move for the Atletico Madrid star could make sense. Chelsea need to improve defensively during the summer window.
‘They have looked quite vulnerable at the back in recent months. Signing a quality central defender should be a priority for them, and the Blues have been linked with several candidates, including Tylel Tati.
Pubill could fancy a big move
Meanwhile, the opportunity to move to the Premier League can be tempting for the young full-back. It would be a step up in his career. The Spanish full-back prodigy would get to play for one of the best clubs in the world. However, he needs to choose his next destination carefully.
Marc Pubill should join a club where there is a prominent role for him and a pathway for his development. Sitting on the bench at Chelsea would be detrimental to his development. Atletico Madrid are unlikely to stand in his way if €80 million is presented for him.
The Spaniard is a young player who is largely unproven, and it is a substantial amount of money. They would be able to improve multiple areas of the squad with that money.
