Leeds United will not pursue a bargain move for 31-year-old English attacker Raheem Sterling after leaving Chelsea as a free agent.
According to a report by Football Insider, Raheem Sterling is no longer the subject of interest from Leeds United. Recent updates suggested that the West Yorkshire outfit may have been in contention to sign the former Chelsea attacker for free after he left the West London club this week.
The experienced English attacker has become a free agent after Chelsea terminated his contract by mutual consent, and he is hunting for his next destination. However, the Englishman will not join Leeds United in the winter transfer window, as the Whites have ruled out a bargain move for him.
Raheem Sterling and his situation
Raheem Sterling will soon embark on a new adventure after leaving Chelsea as a free agent this week. The Englishman’s stock steadily plummeted after he joined Chelsea from Manchester City in a deal worth £50 million in July 2022. Things have gone from bad to worse in the last 18 months, as after becoming a part of the “bomb squad” before the 2024/25 season, the 31-year-old endured a disastrous campaign on loan with Arsenal.
The English attacker has not managed a single minute in the 2025/26 season, and he has now left Chelsea. However, Sterling’s stock remains high, as several Premier League clubs have shown interest in him. Recent reports have linked Leeds United with a move for the former Manchester City star.
What next?
Widespread reports have suggested that Leeds United will dip into the market for a versatile attacker to add to Daniel Farke’s offensive options. The German tactician wants players who can become Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s partner in the final third. Several candidates have thus emerged on Leeds United’s wishlist.
However, a Leeds United deal for Raheem Sterling will not materialise. While widespread reports have suggested that the Englishman wants to remain in London, the 2024/25 EFL Championship winners have ruled out a bargain move.
Napoli director Giovanni Manna has also ruled out a move for Sterling, and it is unclear what the future holds for the Chelsea flop. It will be interesting to see where the 31-year-old English attacker lands in the coming weeks as he attempts to return to England’s squad heading into the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
