Manchester City are ready to retain Bernardo Silva by preparing a two-year deal for the experienced midfielder amid Pep Guardiola’s desire to keep him.
According to TEAMtalk, Manchester City are eager to explore the possibility of keeping hold of Bernardo Silva beyond the summer. The club are reportedly preparing a two-year contract to tempt the Portuguese midfielder into staying put at the Etihad amid growing interest from elsewhere, particularly Barcelona.
Bernardo Silva may not have been revered as someone like Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, or the recently departed Kevin De Bruyne, but he remains one of those very important signings that Manchester City made for their project. The Portuguese midfielder has been as important as those stars in the success the club has achieved over the years.
Since his £43 million move from AS Monaco back in 2017, Silva has gone on to make 439 appearances for Manchester City across all competitions. During this period, not only has he won all possible honours, but he has also become one of the most trusted players in Pep Guardiola’s eyes.
With Bernardo Silva’s contract due to expire in the summer, there is a level of pressure on Manchester City to decide on his future. There have been many links in recent times, including some to the Saudi Pro League, where Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr are interested.
Barcelona are the main suitor as far as multiple reports are concerned, with their interest dating back a few years ago. The Catalan giants are keen on sealing a pre-contract agreement, as the £43 million playmaker’s availability on a free transfer is a bonus to the Spanish giants, given their financial instability and previous interest.
Manchester City to renew Bernardo Silva deal?
Barcelona are not alone in the race, as Juventus are also interested, while the report also names Galatasaray as a possible suitor. Overall, the Portuguese playmaker will have big offers coming his way, particularly from Barcelona, where Joan Laporta is dreaming of bringing Silva on a Bosman deal. Manchester City are now preparing a two-year contract for Silva and will try to convince him to stay.
Pep Guardiola feels the need to keep hold of the playmaker given his experience and complete know-how of the system, particularly at a time when the club are in a transitional mode. Bernardo Silva is thought to be happy at the Etihad, which could allow the club to open dialogue with the midfielder over a renewal, but only time will tell whether the experienced playmaker will remain here or move elsewhere.
