Pep Guardiola is pushing Manchester City to sign Nottingham Forest midfield mainstay Elliot Anderson, amidst interest from rivals Manchester United.
Manchester City have massive plans for 2026, as they look to get back to their best. After a promising first half of the season, Pep Guardiola’s team are now looking to sign players that could further bolster their squad.
They have already added Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth and have an agreement in place for Marc Guehi to make the move to Manchester. While they have just landed their two biggest targets, City have no intentions of stopping here.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, City are willing to go all-out to sign Anderson. Guardiola is the one pushing the club to sign the English international, who has been one of the standout performers for Nottingham over the last 18 months.
Anderson came up the ranks at Newcastle and made quite a name for himself while playing for their first team. While the Magpies had massive expectations from the 23-year-old, they were forced to sanction his departure in the summer of 2024 to balance their books.
The Tricky Trees made the most out of the situation and ended up signing the English midfielder. He has not only established himself as a mainstay, but he is also widely regarded as one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League.
Manchester City want to sign Anderson
While his contract at Nottingham runs until the summer of 2029, City seem keen on prising him away. Guardiola considers him a perfect fit for his system, as he is capable enough to feature as a deep-lying playmaker and a box-to-box number eight.
City seem willing to break the bank on him this winter. However, they might be forced to wait until the summer as Nottingham do not intend to negotiate his departure. It might not be much of a surprise if the Manchester-based giants still end up trying their luck.
Meanwhile, they could face competition from city rivals, Manchester United. The Red Devils have been keeping tabs on him for some time, and with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes’ future uncertain, he is a priority target for them.
