Celtic and Derby County have received a massive boost in their pursuit of David Datro Fofana, as Chelsea are ready to cash in on him.
According to a report from Football Insider, Chelsea are ready to sanction the departure of David Datro Fofana in the ongoing transfer window. The Blues have already recalled him from his loan spell at Turkish club, Fatih Karagumruk, and they are now set to offload him on a permanent basis, amidst interest from Celtic and Derby County.
On the back of his impressive rise at Molde FK, Chelsea secured Fofana’s services at the start of 2023. While they had massive expectations from the Ivorian striker, he has failed to establish himself in their first team and has had loan spells at Union Berlin, Burnley, Goztepe, and Karagumruk.
David Datro Fofana joined the Turkish club last summer after a move to the EFL Championship and Scottish giants Celtic collapsed. The 23-year-old striker has featured in 15 matches for the Super Lig outfit, and he has bagged eight goals.
While the Ivorian has been enjoying his time at Karagumruk, Chelsea have an option to recall him from his loan spell. The Blues are set to trigger it, as they are ready to cash in on him in the ongoing transfer window, amidst interest from Derby County and Celtic.
While speaking about Fofana’s future, O’Rourke said, “I think Martin O’Neill and Celtic really need somebody who can come in and hit the ground running and maybe Fofana could do that. There are a number of other clubs also looking at the on loan Chelsea forward as well.
“I think Chelsea would be open to recalling him from his loan move in Turkey and selling him on a permanent basis, because then that would free up one of their foreign loan spaces to maybe send somebody else out on loan.“
Fofana could permanently part ways with Chelsea
The Scottish giants failed to secure David Datro Fofana’s services last summer, but are now back in the mix as they look to bolster their attack. They feel the in-form Ivorian striker could be a very useful addition to their squad.
The Scottish giants want someone who can come in and have an immediate impact. While Fofana has not had the best of times at Chelsea, he has been in fine form in Turkiye and could carry that form into the English second division.
While Celtic are keen on his signature, even Derby County have been keeping tabs on his situation. The Championship outfit want to further bolster their attack as they look to push for a promotion play-off spot.
Fofana’s departure will not only help Chelsea from a financial point of view, but it will also free up one of their foreign loan slots, allowing them to send somebody else out on loan.
