Chelsea are set to enter the race for Marc Guehi and get ahead of the competing clubs with the defender set to leave in the summer.
According to Football Insider, Chelsea are the latest to enter the conversation for Marc Guehi, with the Londoners planning on signing an A-list centre-back next summer. The Crystal Palace star is set to leave the club and make himself available on a free transfer, with the Blues keen to beat competition for the defender’s signature.
Chelsea have had defensive issues since the start of the season, which began with the season-ending ACL injury to key man Levi Colwill. To add to Enzo Maresca’s woes, Wesley Fofana cannot play miltiple games in a row while other options like Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile or Josh Acheampong have not performed to the required levels yet.
The defence has cost Chelsea valuable points, and it remains an area the club plans on addressing next summer in a big way. The Blues seek an A-list centre-back who would come in and become a starter straightaway, as Marc Guehi is the name they want.
Guehi, who came through the Chelsea academy, having joined them as a six-year-old, until 2021. In that year, he made his switch to Crystal Palace. Last summer, he came close to joining Liverpool at the back end of the summer window before the move failed.
Liverpool are in the race for Guehi, but they are keen to sign him in the summer on a free transfer rather than make a move in January. Chelsea also holds a similar view, while Guehi is ready to stay at Palace until the summer and then leave on his terms, with a lucrative signing-on fee and salary package on the cards.
Where will Marc Guehi go?
Chelsea are surely in the mix for Guehi and plan to convince him to make a return to his former side while staying in London. Manchester City are also keen and considers him a key target next summer, with Pep Guardiola eager to refresh his defensive ranks ahead of the future.
Real Madrid’s interest has cooled a bit, but given the 25-year-old FA Cup winner is now available on a free transfer, they may enter the race in a big way. Either way, Guehi will have multiple options to pick from, including Chelsea ahead of a Bosman move next summer.
