Intermediaries have reportedly offered Barcelona the chance to sign 27-year-old out-of-favour French defender Axel Disasi from Chelsea in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by SPORT, as relayed by Sport Witness, Barcelona will have the opportunity to sign Axel Disasi in the winter transfer window. The reigning La Liga champions are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the coming weeks. So, the 27-year-old out-of-favour Chelsea defender has emerged as an option.
Intermediaries have offered the Frenchman to Barcelona, and a deal may be possible amid Deco’s push to sign a centre-back who “brings quality, creates real competition, and fits the budget”. However, the Catalan giants are also exploring the German market for a new centre-back.
How has Axel Disasi fared at Chelsea?
Axel Disasi has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Chelsea from AS Monaco in a deal worth €45 million in August 2023. The 27-year-old enjoyed a solid debut season, but he did not do enough to become an undisputed first-choice starter. The issues have worsened since Enzo Maresca took over as the Chelsea boss, and the West London club loaned him to Aston Villa earlier this year.
However, the French defender managed only 614 minutes of game time in ten appearances for Aston Villa before returning to Chelsea. Meanwhile, Disasi has no future at the West London club, as they are ready to cash in on him at the earliest opportunity. An adventure in La Liga may be on the cards, as intermediaries have offered him to Barcelona.
La Liga move on the horizon?
Barcelona can do with a defender like Axel Disasi. While the former AS Monaco defender has endured a frustrating situation at Chelsea, the pace of La Liga and the team composition under Hansi Flick should bring the best out of him, with Eric Garcia’s turnaround an indication of how he can benefit from the Barcelona manager’s guidance.
Intermediaries have also offered Barcelona the chance to sign other centre-backs, including Nathan Ake. The Blaugrana will also explore the German market as Deco looks for a player who “brings quality, creates real competition, and fits the budget” at the Catalan club.
As for Disasi, with Chelsea ready to cash in on the Frenchman at the earliest opportunity, a move to Barcelona may be on the cards. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 27-year-old French international.
