West Ham United make approach for Haji Wright, deal difficult

West Ham United will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old USMNT international Haji Wright from EFL Championship club Coventry City, submitting an enquiry over a deal.

According to a report by talkSPORT, Haji Wright is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a striker in the winter transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Coventry City centre-forward has emerged as a target for the West Yorkshire outfit.

Several candidates, including Josh Sargent, have also emerged on West Ham’s radar. However, Wright is also a viable target, with the East London outfit submitting an enquiry over a possible move. But a January deal will not materialise, as Coventry City will “rebuff any offers” for the American striker, as they are in the EFL Championship title race.

How has Haji Wright fared at Coventry City?

Haji Wright has established himself as one of the best strikers in the EFL Championship since joining Coventry City from Antalyaspor in August 2023. The Los Angeles native has been a journeyman in his club career, representing clubs in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Turkiye before arriving in England.

Meanwhile, the USMNT internationalhas been hot off the blocks in the 2025/26 season, contributing to 11 goals in 20 outings across all competitions by finding the back of the net nine times and providing two assists. Wright’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. West Ham United may be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the winter transfer window.

London calling?

West Ham United’s interest in Haji Wright makes sense. The Hammers are scouring the market for a striker heading into the winter transfer window, as they have sanctioned Niclas Fullkrug’s loan move to AC Milan. With Callum Wilson the only striker in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad, they will aim to sign a striker in the winter transfer window.

Several candidates, including Jorgen Strand Larsen, have thus emerged on West Ham United’s radar, with Wright also a viable target. However, the 27-year-old American attacker will unlikely join the East London outfit in the winter transfer window, as Coventry City will “rebuff any offers” for him.

The Sky Blues are at the top of the EFL Championship standings, and they want to retain their best players, meaning Wright will not leave in the winter transfer window. It will be interesting to see who joins West Ham in the coming weeks, with the USMNT international not going anywhere.
