Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea are pushing hard to beat Manchester United and Manchester City to the signature of Mohamed Zongo.
Chelsea are constantly on the lookout for young players with massive potential, and they seem to have found a new gem in Burkina Faso. The Blues are keen on signing Mohamed Zongo, who impressed one and all with his exploits at the Under-17 World Cup in Qatar last month.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, the West London club are working hard to secure his services ahead of the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United, who are also keen on his signature.
Zongo, who currently plays for SF Cascades in his homeland, had a sensational FIFA Under-17 World Cup. The youngster’s performances caught the eye of scouts from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
The 16-year-old attacking midfielder is athletic, has a strong physical presence and is capable enough to feature in different roles. He can break the play and spring a counterattack in an instant.
Chelsea are front-runners to sign Mohamed Zongo
While the teenage sensation has attracted interest from across Europe, Chelsea are now considered favourites to sign the teenage sensation. The Blues have made it a habit of signing the best young players, and they are using their affiliation with sister club RC Strasbourg to hand him a simpler route to their first team.
The West London club do have a very interesting project to offer, and they are currently front-runners. However, Chelsea will face stiff competition from Manchester City and Manchester United.
Can Chelsea actually win the race?
At Manchester United, Zongo could have a better chance of making the first team and getting regular minutes, while at Manchester City, he could work under arguably one of the greatest managers of all time, Pep Guardiola.
From a financial viewpoint, all three clubs should be able to afford to sign the 16-year-old. While Chelsea are leading the race at this point, it will be interesting to see if they can beat Manchester United and Manchester City to his signature, given the amount of work they have put in.
