Inter Milan will reportedly compete with Chelsea to sign 20-year-old Belgian winger Malick Fofana from Ligue 1 club Lyon next year.
According to a report by Italian outlet Inter Live, Malick Fofana is the subject of interest from Inter Milan. The Serie A giants are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a versatile attacker next year. So, the 20-year-old Lyon winger has emerged as a target for the Nerazzurri.
Meanwhile, the Aalst native was also a target for several high-profile clubs in the summer transfer window before a deal failed to materialise. Apart from Inter Milan, the Lyon winger is a target for Chelsea, with the Ligue 1 outfit demanding around €50-60 million to part ways with him next year.
Malick Fofana and his time with Lyon
Malick Fofana has established himself as one of the best young prospects in Ligue 1 since joining Lyon from KAA Gent in a deal worth €20 million in January 2024. The 20-year-old spent his formative years in Belgium and graduated from the youth division at KAA Gent. However, he has risen in prominence since moving to France 20 months ago.
The Belgian winger has made over 50 appearances thus far for Lyon while chipping in with 16 goals and eight assists. Meanwhile, Fofana’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Chelsea and Inter Milan are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
A man in demand
Chelsea’s interest in Malick Fofana is understandable. The Blues are scouring the market for a wide attacker despite signing Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens in the summer transfer window. However, neither summer arrival has made his mark thus far in the 2025/26 season, and Chelsea will return to the market for a new winger.
As for Inter Milan, Cristian Chivu employs versatile attackers in the final third behind the two strikers, and Fofana’s talent makes him an appealing option for the Nerazzurri. However, the Serie A giants have produced a derisory bid worth €25-30 million to sign the young winger, which will not be enough to secure the Lyon prospect’s services.
The Ligue 1 outfit will demand around €50-60 million to part ways with Fofana. However, it is unclear if Chelsea and Inter Milan are ready to pay a big-money sum to land the 20-year-old Belgian winger next year.
