Everton will reportedly look to sign a right-back in the winter transfer window, with 22-year-old Sevilla wide player Juanlu Sanchez still a target for the Merseyside outfit.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Juanlu Sanchez is the subject of interest of Everton. The Toffees are still keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a right-back in the winter transfer window after failing to land one this past summer. So, the 22-year-old Sevilla wide player remains a target for the Merseyside outfit.
Everton wanted to sign the Spaniard in the summer transfer window before looking away from him, as he was eager to join Napoli. However, after failing to sign a right-back this past summer, the Toffees are keen on rectifying their mistake by securing Juanlu’s services in the winter transfer window.
Juanlu Sanchez and his career so far
Juanlu Sanchez has established himself as one of the brightest young prospects in La Liga since breaking into the first-team squad at Sevilla FC. The Montequinto native spent his formative years in Spain and graduated from the youth division at the Andalusian club. The 22-year-old made his senior bow for Los Nervionenses midway through the 2021/22 season, and he has not looked back since then.
The Spanish wide player has been a regular for Sevilla in the last two seasons, and he won the gold medal with Spain at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The youngster has nearly 100 outings thus far for Sevilla while chipping in with six goals and nine assists. Meanwhile, Juanlu’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Everton among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the winter transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Everton wanted to sign Juanlu Sanchez in the summer transfer window, but the deal failed to materialise. The continued interest is understandable, as the Toffees are still scouring the market for a right-back after allowing Ashley Young to depart as a free agent and not replacing him. Additionally, Seamus Coleman is in the twilight of his career, and Nathan Patterson has struggled with fitness issues at Everton.
While Jake O’Brien has been solid in his outings as a right-back for Everton, he is not a natural fit in the position, as he showed against West Ham United earlier this week. So, after failing to sign a right-back in the summer transfer window, the Toffees are eager to rectify that mistake.
Everton will thus pursue the 22-year-old Spaniard’s signature in the winter transfer window. However, it is unclear if Juanlu is open to joining the Merseyside club, and they must keep their options open in the coming weeks.
