Manchester City line up €120 million move for Joao Neves

Manchester City will reportedly look to sign 20-year-old Portuguese international Joao Neves from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth €120 million next year.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Joao Neves is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Citizens are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder next year. So, the 20-year-old Paris Saint-Germain prospect has emerged as a target for the Premier League club.

The Premier League giants are ready to pay €120 million to sign the Tavira native next year, with Pep Guardiola “asking the board to make an effort” to secure his services. Manchester City will hope to tempt PSG to cash in on Neves when they present a bid worth €120 million. However, the 2024/25 Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League winners will not entertain any bids for the young midfielder.

Joao Neves and his meteoric rise

Joao Neves has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world since joining Paris Saint-Germain from SL Benfica over a year ago. The 20-year-old hit the ground running at Parc des Princes, immediately becoming a pivotal figure for PSG under the tutelage of Luis Enrique.

The Portuguese international has made over 50 appearances thus far for PSG while chipping in with ten goals and ten assists. Meanwhile, the young midfielder’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Manchester City will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature next year.

Premier League adventure beckons?

Joao Neves has been on Manchester City’s radar for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, considering Bernardo Silva faces an uncertain future at the Etihad. The Portuguese international has been with Manchester City for nearly a decade, and he has entered the final 12 months of his contract.

Recent reports have suggested that Silva may leave Manchester City next year, although it is unclear if the Citizens want to extend his stay at the Etihad. Nevertheless, Neves has emerged as a viable target for Manchester City, as he can be a like-for-like replacement for Silva. The Premier League giants are ready to submit a bid worth €120 million to sign him from PSG.

However, while recouping €120 million for Neves may appeal to most clubs, the 2024/25 Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League have no need to raise funds. So, PSG will reject Manchester City when they present their bid to sign the 20-year-old Portuguese international.
