Barcelona and Chelsea have made approaches for Argentine teenage sensation Ian Subiabre, with River are fighting to get a contract extension in place.
According to a report by Soy Del Millo, River Plate are fretting over the immediate future of 18-year-old Argentine attacking sensation Ian Subiabre. Chelsea and Barcelona have made approaches for the winger, and River Plate are fighting hard to get an extension in place.
Ian Subiabre is considered the next big star for the future to come out of River Plate’s system. The Argentine giants recently sold their other teenage star, Franco Mastantuono, to Real Madrid, and so far, he has been tremendous in his new surroundings.
Since Mastantuono’s departure, Subiabre is widely expected to assume an important role in this River Plate side, specifically in the role of the new Real Madrid star, which was on the right wing. However, there are issues in the background about the teenager’s contract, as the club and player have not managed to agree on fresh terms.
In fact, Ian Subiabre had been left out of the bench in a recent game owing to the contractual situation, and he is now expected to miss a big game ahead. With his current deal expiring at the end of 2026, the likelihood of losing him on the cheap does bother River Plate.
They are scrambling to get a new contract in place, with the stumbling block right now being River Plate’s insistence on a €100 million release clause. The player and his camp want a lower figure, as should they get their way, there is a possibility the Argentine teenage sensation might extend his stay at the club.
Chelsea and Barcelona make approaches
Chelsea and Barcelona were interested in Subiabre for a while, and it appears the European giants have made approaches to explore a move ahead of the winter transfer window. Both teams have a big presence in the South American markets, which could potentially allow Subiabre some leverage in negotiations with River Plate.
Chelsea had been tracking Ian Subiabre since the beginning of 2025, and, unsurprisingly, they are planning to sign the player. Barcelona might angle a cut-price move for the teenage winger, with the hope of developing him alongside some of the other formidable young stars at the club’s first team.
