Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid join Liverpool in Marc Guehi race

Liverpool remain confident about signing Crystal Palace mainstay Marc Guehi, amidst interest from Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Marc Guehi was on the verge of leaving Crystal Palace in the recently concluded transfer window, but things didn’t go according to plan for him. While he will continue to play for Oliver Glasner’s team for now, the English international is expected to secure a move away in January.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Liverpool could return for his signature in the winter, but this time they could face competition from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid. Given the quality of the player, it is no surprise that some of the biggest clubs are after him.

With Guehi’s contract running out in less than a year’s time, the Reds were willing to pay around £35 million, and they had an agreement in place with the Chelsea graduate. He had even completed a medical, but the transfer collapsed in the final stage, following Oliver Glasner’s intervention.

The decision left the player as well as Arne Slot’s team furious. Since Guehi has made it clear that he won’t sign a new deal, he is expected to be on the move in January. Since the Eagles do not want to lose out on him for free, they have slashed the asking price down to around £25 million for the winter window.

European giants could battle for Guehi

Liverpool will certainly be back for his signature, but they will have to face a lot of competition. Los Blancos are one of the clubs keen on his signature. They seek more quality at the back with their mainstays, not getting any younger, they could look to reach a pre-contract agreement over a free transfer.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are impressed with the progress of their former youth star, and they could try to bring him back to Stamford Bridge in a bargain deal. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are also keeping tabs on the 25-year-old. They seek more depth at the back, and he could prove to be a valuable addition given his experience in the English top flight.

Liverpool confident about winning the race

Despite the competition, the Reds remain confident about signing the English international, as reported by the Daily Star. The Merseyside club believe they remain favourites to win the race despite interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, largely because they already have the player’s green light.

Liverpool are not only optimistic about securing the deal but are also confident that they can sign him for a cut-price fee when the transfer window reopens.
