Chelsea eager to offload Axel Disasi, Raheem Sterling this month

Chelsea will aim to cash in on the out-of-favour duo of Axel Disasi and Raheem Sterling before the summer transfer window shuts down in Saudi Arabia.

According to a report by Caught Offside, Axel Disasi and Raheem Sterling remain out of Enzo Maresca’s plans for the 2025/26 season despite failing to secure moves away from Chelsea when the summer transfer window was open in most European countries. The Blues are keen on parting ways with the out-of-favour duo this month, with the window still open in Turkiye and Saudi Arabia.

The report has quoted comments from sources, revealing, “Chelsea are willing to negotiate, possibly for lower asking prices now. At least one deal could go through before the winter window closes in Saudi Arabia. Sterling and Disasi are not in Enzo Maresca’s plans. The club would prefer permanent exits over loaning them out again.”

Raheem Sterling has gone from being one of the best players in the Premier League to a pale shadow of his best version since joining Chelsea from Manchester City in July 2022. While the Englishman showed flashes of brilliance in his first two seasons, Enzo Maresca assigned the player to the “bomb squad” last summer before he endured a disastrous loan spell with Arsenal.

On the other hand, Axel Disasi has been with Chelsea since arriving from AS Monaco in August 2023. While the French international was solid at times for the West London club, a lack of consistency sent him down the pecking order before Chelsea loaned him to Aston Villa earlier this year.

Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi already knew they had no future at Chelsea when the summer transfer window opened. However, while the latter rejected Crystal Palace and West Ham United, among others, Sterling had barely any market throughout the summer transfer window.

Deadline day of the summer transfer window revealed that Fulham ruled out a late move for the English international. However, failure to offload Sterling and Disasi has not dampened spirits at Chelsea, with the West London club keen on parting ways with them before the window closes in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Pro League clubs can still sign players until September 23, and Chelsea will hope clubs present offers in the next two weeks. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Sterling and Disasi.
