Arsenal will reportedly look to sign 23-year-old Ecuadorian international Piero Hincapie from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen before the weekend.
According to a report by Give Me Sport, Piero Hincapie is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a versatile centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 23-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender has emerged as a target for the North London club.
The Premier League heavyweights are keen on securing a loan deal with a purchase obligation clause, hoping to close the package at around €50 million. Additionally, Arsenal will aim to finalise the move before the weekend. The South American defender has a release clause worth €60 million in his contract with Bayer Leverkusen.
Piero Hincapie and his Bundesliga adventure so far
Piero Hincapie has made considerable progress since joining Bayer Leverkusen from CA Talleres in August 2021. Even though the 23-year-old has not been an undisputed first-choice starter for the Bundesliga club, he has been impressive at BayArena in the last four years, and he played his part when Die Werkself won the Bundesliga title in the 2023/24 season.
The Ecuadorian international has made over 150 appearances thus far for the Bundesliga club while chipping in with seven goals and five assists. Meanwhile, Hincapie’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several European bigwigs. Premier League outfits, in particular, are keen on signing Hincapie, with Arsenal among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the final days of the summer transfer window.
London calling?
Arsenal’s interest in Piero Hincapie is understandable. The Gunners are eager to sign a versatile defender this summer as they prepare to sanction Jakub Kiwior’s departure from the Emirates. So, the 23-year-old Bayer Leverkusen centre-back has emerged as a viable target for Arsenal, as he can be a like-for-like replacement for the Polish international.
Recent reports have revealed that personal terms will not be an issue for Hincapie, with the Bayer Leverkusen defender keen on joining Arsenal in the summer transfer window. However, the Premier League table-toppers want to secure his services on a loan deal with a purchase obligation clause. Additionally, they want the package to be worth less than his release clause of €60 million.
The 23-year-old Ecuadorian international also wants that, and an agreement worth €50 million with Bayer Leverkusen may be on the cards. With the player ready to leave the Bundesliga club, Arsenal will aim to finalise the deal before the weekend.
