Aston Villa have held talks to sign Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea

Aston Villa will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old Senegalese international Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

According to an update by reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Nicolas Jackson is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are eager to reinforce their offensive unit by signing a versatile striker in the summer transfer window. So, the versatile 24-year-old Chelsea attacker has emerged as a target for the Tyneside outfit.

The former Villarreal attacker has also been a target for Bayern Munich, and the Bavarian outfit “gathered information” over a possible deal. However, Aston Villa will have a clear run at Jackson, with Bayern Munich ruling out a summer move. Meanwhile, the Villans are closely monitoring his situation, and they have already held talks with Chelsea.

Nicolas Jackson and his situation

Nicolas Jackson has reached a crossroads in his career after becoming a peripheral figure at Chelsea. While the 24-year-old has come leaps and bounds since joining Chelsea from Villarreal in July 2023, he has fallen in the pecking order after the West London club signed Liam Delap and Joao Pedro in the summer transfer window.

The Senegalese international has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for Chelsea while chipping in with 30 goals and 12 assists. Delap and Joao Pedro are now ahead of Jackson in the pecking order, with Enzo Maresca putting the player in Chelsea’s “bomb squad”. So, an exit is on the cards, with Aston Villa and Bayern Munich among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

What next?

Aston Villa’s interest in Nicolas Jackson is understandable. While Ollie Watkins will unlikely depart from Villa Park in the summer transfer window after his erstwhile suitors signed other strikers, the wantaway Chelsea attacker can be the like-for-like replacement for Marcus Rashford at the West Midlands club. So, the versatile Chelsea attacker has emerged as a viable target for Aston Villa.

As for Bayern Munich, Mathys Tel has completed a permanent move to Tottenham Hotspur. Additionally, Harry Kane is on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of his career. So, Bayern Munich can do with a young striker, with Die Roten submitting an enquiry. However, the Bundesliga champions have ruled out a summer move for the Chelsea striker.

With Bayern Munich not pursuing Jackson’s signature, Aston Villa should have a clear run at the wantaway Chelsea attacker. Meanwhile, recent reports have claimed that a move to Villa Park appeals to the 24-year-old Senegalese international. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for him.
