Chelsea, Aston Villa submit enquiries for Rico Lewis as Nottingham Forest face battle

Manchester City defender Rico Lewis has been linked with a move away from the club during the summer transfer window.

Initially, there were rumours that Nottingham Forest are keen on signing him, but Chelsea and Aston Villa have submitted enquiries for the 20-year-old, as per CaughtOffside. He is versatile enough to operate as a fullback as well as a defensive midfielder. He could prove to be a quality acquisition for most teams in the Premier League.

Lewis is a young player with tremendous potential, and he could develop into a future star with the right guidance. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea or Aston Villa follow up on their enquiry with an official offer to sign him.

Chelsea could certainly use more quality and depth in the defensive unit. The 20-year-old will certainly help them improve, and his versatility will be an added bonus. Similarly, Villa are looking to put together a squad capable of competing in Europe regularly. They need more quality in the defensive unit, and the versatile young Manchester City player would be a solid future investment for them.

It will be interesting to see if Manchester City can keep him at the club beyond this summer. They need to offer him regular gametime at this stage of his career, and if they cannot provide him with that platform, it would be wise of the player to move on.

Rico Lewis needs game time

Sitting on the bench at a big club is unlikely to benefit him at this stage of his career. He needs to play regularly, and the likes of Chelsea and Aston Villa could be ideal destinations. It remains to be seen where he ends up. There is no doubt that he is a quality player, and he has shown his ability in the Premier League. He will only improve with coaching and experience. He could prove to be a future asset.

Meanwhile, Manchester City will not want to lose a talented player like him to a direct rival. It is fair to assume that a move will be quite difficult to pull off.
