Newcastle United will be ready to pay £60 million, Chelsea’s asking price, to sign 24-year-old Senegalese international Nicolas Jackson in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Nicolas Jackson is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Alexander Isak’s long-term future. So, the versatile 24-year-old Chelsea attacker emerged as a target for the Tyneside outfit.
Meanwhile, the West London club’s asking price has gone from £80 million to £60 million, an update that has pleased Newcastle United. The 2024/25 EFL Cup winners are ready to meet Chelsea’s valuation, with Eddie Howe convinced that Jackson can replace Isak at St. James’ Park. However, they have yet to decide on submitting a formal offer to Chelsea.
Nicolas Jackson and his situation
Nicolas Jackson has reached a crossroads in his career despite making significant progress since joining Chelsea from Villarreal in a deal worth £32 million in July 2023. Even though the 24-year-old attacker has tended to be wasteful in front of the goal, his work rate and ability to create chances for his teammates have made him an asset for the West London club.
The Senegalese international has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for Chelsea while chipping in with 30 goals and 12 assists. However, Jackson has no future at Chelsea, as they have signed Liam Delap and Joao Pedro this summer. So, an exit is on the cards, with Newcastle United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Will Newcastle United sign the wantaway Chelsea attacker?
Newcastle United’s interest in Nicolas Jackson is understandable. The Magpies are scouring the market for a striker due to Alexander Isak’s insistence on joining Liverpool before the summer transfer window shuts down. Several candidates, including Yoane Wissa, have emerged on Newcastle United’s radar, with Jackson also a viable target.
The possible move for the former Villarreal attacker is one step closer, as Eddie Howe believes he can replace Isak in the long run. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s decision to reduce Jackson’s price from £80 million to £60 million has pleased Newcastle United, with the club ready to meet the West London club’s valuation.
However, while the 2024/25 EFL Cup winners are ready to pay £60 million to sign Jackson, they are “weighing up whether to step up their pursuit” amid interest in other targets. So, it will be interesting to see if the 24-year-old Senegalese international leaves Chelsea to join Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.
