Manchester United will compete with Manchester City and Bayern Munich to sign 26-year-old Italian international Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG this summer.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Gianluigi Donnarumma is the subject of interest from Manchester United. Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also keen on signing the 26-year-old Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. However, the Red Devils lead the battle for the Italian international shot-stopper’s signature.
Gianluigi Donnarumma and his situation
Gianluigi Donnarumma has been one of the most revered goalkeepers in the world since he broke into the spotlight as a teenage sensation several years ago. The 26-year-old has continued going from strength to strength since joining PSG in a Bosmanve move in July 2021, enjoying a productive stint thus far with Les Parisiens.
The Italian international has turned out over 150 times thus far for PSG while keeping 52 clean sheets and conceding 152 goals. However, Donnarumma’s long-term future at Parc des Princes is nonexistent after Luis Enrique omitted him from the matchday squad for the UEFA Super Cup. Meanwhile, the former AC Milan prodigy has spoken on the exclusion, and the situation has led to links with several bigwigs, including Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Manchester United.
A man in demand
Bayern Munich must plan for life after Manuel Neuer, with the veteran German goalkeeper in the twilight of his career. With Alexander Nubel’s long-term future uncertain, the Bundesliga giants are keen on signing a top-notch goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. So, Donnarumma has emerged as a viable target for Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, Manchester City’s interest in Gianluigi Donnarumma is perplexing. The Citizens have re-signed James Trafford from Burnley this summer. While Ederson Moraes and Stefan Ortega face an uncertain future at the Etihad, they do not need another potential first-choice goalkeeper in the window. Nevertheless, the PSG goalkeeper is a target for Manchester City.
As for Manchester United, Andre Onana has been inconsistent during his spell with the Red Devils, and Altay Bayindir has not been convincing enough in his limited outings for the club. Several candidates have emerged on Manchester United’s radar, with Donnarumma also a viable target. The report has suggested that the struggling Premier League giants lead the battle for his signature.
Meanwhile, another report by Caught Offside has revealed that Ruben Amorim has asked Manchester United to sign Donnarumma in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if the Red Devils can beat Manchester City and Bayern Munich for his signature.
