Manchester United may look to sign 20-year-old Italian centre-back Pietro Comuzzo from Serie A club Fiorentina in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Italian outlet Quotidiano Sportivo, Pietro Comuzzo is the subject of interest of Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 20-year-old Fiorentina prospect has emerged as a target for them.
The struggling Premier League giants have scouted the highly-rated centre-back this week, with Fiorentina facing Nottingham Forest in a friendly at the City Ground. However, Manchester United will face stiff competition from Bournemouth and Sunderland, with the two Premier League clubs monitoring the youngster’s performance.
Pietro Comuzzo and his rising stock
Pietro Comuzzo has established himself as one of the best young prospects in Serie A since breaking into the first-team squad at Fiorentina. A native of San Daniele del Friuli, the 20-year-old spent his formative years in Italy, passing through the academies at Pordenone FC and Udinese before graduating from the youth division at Fiorentina.
The Italian defensive prospect has already turned out 50 times thus far for Fiorentina while chipping in with one goal. Meanwhile, Comuzzo’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Premier League outfits, in particular, are keen on signing the youngster, with Manchester United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Premier League adventure beckons?
Manchester United’s interest in Pietro Comuzzo is somewhat surprising. Ruben Amorim has a stacked central defensive unit at Old Trafford, even though the Red Devils have parted ways with Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof as free agents this summer. Additionally, Aiden Heaven and Tyler Fredricson are potential long-term centre-back solutions.
However, Manchester United’s desire for a new centre-back may have stemmed from Harry Maguire’s advancing age. While the English international remains in Amorim’s plans for the 2025/26 season, his long-term future is uncertain. Comuzzo is thus an option worth considering, and the struggling Premier League giants have scouted the youngster this week.
However, the Manchester United scouts were not alone, as Bournemouth and Sunderland also monitored the 20-year-old Italian defensive sensation during Fiorentina’s friendly against Nottingham Forest this week. Meanwhile, Manchester United will have the chance to get a closer look at Comuzzo again when they face La Viola this weekend in their final tie before the 2025/26 season begins.
