Liverpool will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old English international Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Marc Guehi is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit in the summer transfer window by signing a centre-back. So, the 24-year-old Crystal Palace defender has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.
The Premier League champions are inching closer to landing the Englishman in the summer transfer window. Liverpool will also initiate “club-to-club contact” with Crystal Palace to sign Guehi, with the South London outfit demanding around £70 million to part ways with him. However, his summer departure may see the light of day for around £45 million.
Marc Guehi and his rise at Crystal Palace
Marc Guehi has become a household name since joining Crystal Palace from Chelsea in July 2021. The 24-year-old has gone from strength to strength in the last four years, establishing himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League while becoming a regular for his national side.
The English international has turned out over 150 times thus far for Crystal Palace while chipping in with eight goals and four assists. Meanwhile, Guehi’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Liverpool will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Liverpool’s interest in Marc Guehi is understandable. The Reds are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window as they prepare to part ways with Jarell Quansah. The academy graduate is on the cusp of joining Bayer Leverkusen, compelling Liverpool to dip into the market for a centre-back.
In addition, Virgil van Dijk is approaching the twilight of his career, with the Dutch defender on the wrong side of 30. So, Guehi has emerged as a viable target for Liverpool, with the Merseyside outfit closing in on securing an agreement on personal terms with the 24-year-old Englishman. Furthermore, the Premier League champions are ready to initiate “club-to-club contacts” with Crystal Palace.
Meanwhile, while the Eagles value Guehi at £70 million, they will be open to parting ways with him for around £45 million. However, recent reports have suggested that Crystal Palace will not accept a cut-price fee to sell the English international. So, it will be interesting to see how much he goes for this year.
