Official: Liverpool complete Jeremie Frimpong deal

Jeremie Frimpong has completed his move to Liverpool, with the Merseyside club reportedly coughing up €35 million to sign the Dutch full-back from Bayer Leverkusen.

In an official statement on Liverpool’s website, the Reds have announced the arrival of Jeremie Frimpong. The Dutch full-back has signed a long-term contract with the Merseyside outfit, signing his contract after passing his medical today. The former Bayer Leverkusen wide player has expressed his delight at completing his summer move to Liverpool for €35 million.

The newly signed full-back said, “It went quite easy. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer. For me, it was like, ‘Whatever you guys do, just get this done’, [speaking to] my agents: ‘Just get this done.'”

“Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together. I’m just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me and I won’t let you guys down and I’ll give you the energy that you guys want.”

Jeremie Frimpong has established himself as one of the best wing-backs in the world since joining Bayer Leverkusen from Celtic in January 2021. The Dutchman has come leaps and bounds in the last four and a half years, and he was instrumental in the German club’s league and cup double in the 2023/24 season.

While the 24-year-old was not as productive as last season, he contributed to 17 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net five times and providing 12 assists. However, Frimpong’s stock in the market has been high, and he has joined Liverpool in a long-term deal.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has left Liverpool to join Real Madrid in a bargain deal today, and the Merseyside club needed a long-term replacement. While Conor Bradley is a promising full-back, Arne Slot wants two top-notch options for every position. So, Jeremie Frimpong emerged as a viable target for Liverpool, and personal terms were never an issue for him.

Liverpool quickly secured an agreement over a deal worth €35 million, and the Reds have sealed the move. The newly crowned Premier League champions will hope he fills Trent Alexander-Arnold’s void at Anfield in the coming seasons.
