Manchester City will reportedly entertain offers to part ways with 22-year-old English attacker James McAtee in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Give Me Sport, James McAtee might not be at Manchester City beyond the summer transfer window. The Citizens are ready to part ways with the English attacking whizkid in the coming months. The development will boost the prospects of Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, and Tottenham Hotspur, with seven clubs vying for his signature.
James McAtee and his career so far
James McAtee is one of the most promising prospects to emerge from Manchester City’s top-class youth division in the last few years. A native of Salford, the Englishman spent his formative years with the Citizens and graduated from the club’s academy as an 18-year-old in September 2021.
While the 22-year-old broke into the first-team squad nearly four years ago, he has yet to become a regular for Manchester City. However, McAtee has grown in stature this season, amassing seven goals in only 936 minutes of game time in 27 appearances in all competitions. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, including Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, and Tottenham Hotspur.
A man in demand
Aston Villa can do with a player like the English attacking whizkid amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio. While the Manchester City prospect won’t be a like-for-like replacement for the duo, his qualities should make him the ideal foil for Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers at Aston Villa.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace mulled over signing James McAtee in the winter transfer window before the deal failed to see the light of day. The continued interest makes sense, considering Eberechi Eze faces an uncertain future at Selhurst Park. So, the Manchester City prospect is a viable target for Crystal Palace.
As for Tottenham Hotspur, McAtee’s versatility makes him a viable option to replace Richarlison and Timo Werner. In addition, the Englishman’s £15,000-a-week wages make him an appealing target for Tottenham and his other suitors. The latest development has boosted their prospects, with Manchester City ready to part ways with him in the summer transfer window.
However, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, and Tottenham Hotspur face competition from Brighton & Hove Albion, Everton, Newcastle United, and Nottingham Forest for the 22-year-old English attacking prospect. It will be interesting to see where McAtee lands if he leaves Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
