Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing 24-year-old Nigerian striker Toluwalase Arokodare from Belgian club KRC Genk in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Africa Foot, Toluwalase Arokodare is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the KRC Genk star. Meanwhile, the Belgian club will demand around €17 million to part ways with the Nigerian international.
Who is Toluwalase Arokodare?
Toluwalase Arokodare has come leaps and bounds since joining KRC Genk from Amiens SC in January 2023. A native of Festac, the African attacker spent his formative years in Nigeria before moving to Europe by joining Latvian outfit Valmiera FC in July 2019. Since then, he has turned out for clubs in Germany, France, and Belgium.
The 24-year-old has come leaps and bounds in the last two years, establishing himself as a pivotal figure for KRC Genk. Arokodare has been exceptional thus far this term, contributing to 27 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 20 times and providing seven assists.
Meanwhile, Arokodare’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards for the Nigerian international, with Newcastle United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Newcastle United’s interest in Toluwalase Arokodare is understandable. The Magpies are combing the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Callum Wilson’s future. The English centre-forward will likely depart from St. James’ Park after his contract with Newcastle United expires.
So, several candidates, including Dominic Calvert-Lewin, have emerged on Newcastle United’s radar, with Arokodare also a viable target for the Tyneside outfit. Meanwhile, the KRC Genk striker will not cost a bomb, with the Belgian club demanding around €17 million to part ways with him.
So, Arokodare is a cost-effective alternative to some of Newcastle United’s targets due to KRC Genk’s asking price of €17 million. It will be interesting to see if the 24-year-old Nigerian international arrives at St. James’ Park in the summer transfer window.
