AC Milan considering Stefan Ortega swoop

AC Milan are considering a move for Stefan Ortega as a direct replacement for Mike Maignan, with the Frenchman now expected to leave.

According to Milan Live, AC Milan are considering a few options to replace Mike Maignan in the summer, with Stefan Ortega’s name the latest to be added to their list. The Manchester City goalkeeper could be made available for a cut-price fee in the summer, as he seeks regular first-team football.

AC Milan have found themselves in a tricky situation with regards to a few of their key first-team stars. One of them is first-choice goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who has been a top performer for the Rossoneri since arriving from LOSC Lille. However, his contractual situation could force the club to consider a sale.

Of late, there have been reports pointing to a verbal agreement between Milan and Maignan over a renewal until 2028. However, the two parties are yet to put pen to paper. With the France No.1’s contract set to expire in 2026, there is a big possibility of a sale in the upcoming summer window.

There is big interest coming in from Premier League clubs, which could turn the Frenchman’s head towards a move away from Milan. On the other hand, the Rossoneri are already considering a few options to replace Maignan, with Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega the latest name on their list.

Ortega has been on the ropes at Manchester City for the last three years, mainly on the bench as a deputy to Ederson Moraes. The Brazilian international could make his switch to Saudi Arabia in the summer, which could potentially open the door for the German to stake a claim at the No.1 spot, although reports are stating Pep Guardiola would look for a direct replacement for the Brazilian.

Stefan Ortega available in a cut-price deal

Since there are no guarantees of being Manchester City’s next No.1 and given Ortega wants regular first-team action, he might depart from the Etihad. The Premier League champions want €7-8 million for the rotational player, which would suit a lot of teams interested in him, with Bayer Leverkusen among those keen to taking him back to Germany.

Atletico Madrid are also keen on the €7-8 million-rated stopper, and now AC Milan entering the race would provide the German with plenty of options to consider. Milan may not view Stefan Ortega as the absolute first choice to replace Maignan, although his price may push the Rossoneri towards the Manchester City star ahead of the summer, as they can potentially offer him the No.1 spot.
