Manchester City eyeing Morgan Gibbs-White as Kevin De Bruyne replacement

Manchester City might pursue 25-year-old English international Morgan Gibbs-White to replace Kevin De Bruyne in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by The Athletic, Morgan Gibbs-White is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions are combing the market for a creative midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. So, the Nottingham Forest playmaker has emerged as a target.

The rise and rise of Morgan Gibbs-White

Morgan Gibbs-White has established himself as one of the best creative midfielders in the Premier League since joining Nottingham Forest from Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2022. A native of Stafford, the Englishman spent his formative years with Wolverhampton Wanderers but could not become an undisputed first-choice starter for the Black Country outfit.

The 25-year-old has not looked back since joining Nottingham Forest, and he has gone from strength to strength in the last three years. Gibbs-White has played his part in the Tricky Trees flying high in the Premier League and occupying the third spot in the standings this season.

The English international has contributed to 14 goals in 27 Premier League appearances thus far, finding the back of the net five times and providing nine assists. The Nottingham Forest playmaker’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Manchester City will aim to beat the competition to his signature in the summer transfer window.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Morgan Gibbs-White has been on Manchester City’s radar for a long time. The continued interest in the Nottingham Forest mainstay is understandable, considering Kevin De Bruyne will depart from the Etihad after the 2024/25 season ends. The Belgian international will leave a lasting legacy at Manchester City, but they need a long-term replacement for him.

While signing a like-for-like replacement for De Bruyne is improbable, Manchester City can mitigate his absence by bolstering Pep Guardiola’s creative options. So, Gibbs-White has emerged as a viable target for Manchester City, although prising the 25-year-old Englishman away from Nottingham Forest might be a tall order.

While the opportunity to join Manchester City can be attractive, Nottingham Forest will be eager to keep Gibbs-White at the City Ground ahead of the 2025/26 European campaign. So, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the English international.
