River Plate are surprisingly linked with a move for Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne, who could leave the English side this summer.
According to Fichajes, River Plate are reportedly keen to bring Kevin De Bruyne as a blockbuster signing in the summer. The Belgian’s links to the Argentine side are very surprising at this stage given the Belgian has an array of suitors from Europe, Saudi Arabia and even from the MLS.
Kevin De Bruyne’s future at Manchester City is still up in the air given the team’s struggles this season as well as their decision on whether to offer him a new deal. The club are not clear about the situation at least publicly, although many reports are stating this could be the end of the road for both parties.
There were rumours of a possible new contract with a pay cut for De Bruyne being planned, although those reports have died out faster than they came about. De Bruyne could be leaving the club on a free transfer if there was no renewal forthcoming as there are a lot of interested clubs around.
Al-Nassr and PSG are being mentioned in links, with suggestions those clubs could table attractive offers for De Bruyne to consider. There are more Saudi Arabian sides interested, while it remains to be seen what the Belgian thinks of his immediate future, as he could consider staying in Europe if an important offer presents itself.
He’s also open to joining an MLS club, with some teams there already showing interest including San Diego. In a recent interview, De Bruyne did claim that money was not the objective for him going forward amid strong links then to a move to Saudi Arabia, which has now opened a new route for him to decide on his future as Argentine side River Plate are reportedly interested in the Belgian.
Can River Plate sign Kevin De Bruyne?
As much as impossible the whole idea sounds, River Plate can do something unique in the market and sell the idea of playing for one of the biggest clubs in South America. The Argentine club certainly cannot compete on the financial side with some of De Bruyne’s other high-profile suitors, but they can manage to offer him a massive sporting experience on this side of the world.
If money is not the objective for De Bruyne, he might even consider the idea of a deal to sign for River Plate if things on the negotiation table prove fruitful. The idea has already been accepted by River Plate fans, who are a bit excited by the news, although so far nothing has been decided about any potential move to the Argentine powerhouse.
