Manchester United and Manchester City are in talks to sign Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong amidst interest from rivals Liverpool.
According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Manchester United and Manchester City are both keen on signing Jeremie Frimpong ahead of next season. Both Manchester giants are in talks to sign the Bayer Leverkusen star, but they could face competition from Liverpool, who are also looking to sign a new right-back.
Things did not work out for Frimpong at Manchester City back in the day, as he left the Premier League club without even making a first-team appearance. He got his career back on track at Celtic before joining Leverkusen at the start of 2021.
Jeremie Frimpong has taken his game to the next level since joining the Bundesliga outfit, and he was exceptional in their title-winning campaign last time out. The 24-year-old wing-back has 15 goal contributions in his 40 outings this season.
The Dutchman’s impressive performances have put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs in England who could look to prise him away this summer. With Trent Alexander-Arnold closing in on a free transfer to Real Madrid, Liverpool could be in the market for a new right-sided full-back.
Liverpool are interested in bringing Jeremie Frimpong to Anfield to replace their academy graduate. The Reds have already intensified their pursuit, and it will be interesting to see if they make any advances in the coming weeks.
Manchester United and Manchester City hold talks to sign Frimpong
Liverpool are not the only club eager to bring the Dutch international to England. Manchester United and Manchester City are both very keen on signing Jeremie Frimpong. They have held talks with his camp in recent weeks.
While it did not work out for him at Manchester City back in the day, Pep Guardiola is willing to give him an important role in the team. Following Kyle Walker’s departure to AC Milan in the winter, the Premier League champions need a new right-sided defender on a priority basis.
Meanwhile, Manchester United consider Frimpong an ideal fit for Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system. Wing-backs have a massive role in his system, and the Dutch international could do wonders for them from the flanks. While their priority was to bring Sporting CP’s Geovany Quenda, he has agreed to join Chelsea. As a result, they are looking at the Bayer Leverkusen star to bolster their flanks.
