Arsenal and Liverpool have reportedly joined Manchester City in the race to sign 25-year-old Italian international Andrea Cambiaso from Serie A club Juventus.
According to a report by Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Andrea Cambiaso is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions are scouring the market for a full-back heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Juventus wide player. However, they face stiff competition from Arsenal and Liverpool for the 25-year-old versatile defender.
Andrea Cambiaso and his Juventus journey
Andrea Cambiaso has gone from strength to strength since establishing a foothold in the first-team squad at Juventus. The Genova native had to bide his time before landing on his feet at the Turin club. However, he has not looked back since returning from a solid loan spell with Bologna in the 2022/23 season.
The 25-year-old has been a mainstay at the back for Juventus in the last two years, turning out 74 times thus far for the Bianconeri while chipping in with five goals and nine assists. Meanwhile, Cambiaso’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the player, with Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City vying for his signature.
A man in demand
Manchester City mulled over signing the Italian international in the winter transfer window before delaying the move until the summer. The Premier League champions have only one out-and-out full-back in the first-team squad. So, Pep Guardiola wants more options for the two flanks, and the versatile Juventus full-back has emerged as a viable target for Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s interest in Andrea Cambiaso makes sense. While Mikel Arteta has preferred to utilise centre-backs in the two full-back berths, the North London club can do with a recognised full-back. So, the Juventus wide player is an option worth considering for Arsenal.
As for Liverpool, Trent Alexander-Arnold will likely depart from Anfield as a free agent. In addition, Andrew Robertson has shown signs of age catching up with him. So, Liverpool can do with a right-back and a left-back, with Cambiaso a possible one-stop solution for both positions.
Considering the 25-year-old Italian international’s popularity, Juventus should demand a premium to part ways with him in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if Arsenal or Liverpool can usurp Manchester City in the chase.
