Chelsea, Real Madrid run rule over Dean Huijsen in Spain debut

Chelsea and Real Madrid have reportedly monitored 19-year-old Bournemouth defensive sensation Dean Huijsen during his debut for Spain this week.

According to a report by Spanish outlet MARCA, Chelsea and Real Madrid are interested in signing Dean Huijsen in the summer transfer window. The Spaniard international made his senior bow for La Roja earlier this week, with scouts from the two European bigwigs present at De Kuip to watch him against the Netherlands.

The rise and rise of Dean Huijsen

Dean Huijsen has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Premier League since joining Bournemouth from Juventus last summer. The Amsterdam-born wonderkid took some time to get going but has not looked back since receiving his opportunity in Marcos Senesi’s injury-enforced absence.

The 19-year-old has amassed over 2,000 minutes of game time across 27 appearances in all competitions thus far for Bournemouth. Meanwhile, Huijsen’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe while earning him his debut for Spain.

A man in demand

Chelsea and Real Madrid are among the prospective suitors vying for Huijsen’s signature heading into the summer transfer window. The two bigwigs sent scouts to watch the Spanish international make his senior bow for La Roja, with the teenage sensation replacing Pau Cubarsi towards the end of the first half against the Netherlands at De Kuip.

Chelsea’s interest in Dean Huijsen makes sense. While Enzo Maresca has several centre-backs in his squad, Wesley Fofana has struggled with fitness issues. In addition, Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, and Trevoh Chalobah face an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. So, the Bournemouth whizkid has emerged as a viable target for Chelsea.

As for Real Madrid, Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are on the wrong side of 30. In addition, Jesus Vallejo will likely depart from the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window, while Eder Militao has sustained two long-term knee injuries in as many seasons. So, Real Madrid can do with a highly-rated centre-back, making Huijsen an option worth considering.

Recent reports have claimed that Huijsen prefers a move to La Liga. So, Real Madrid should have the advantage over Chelsea in the race to secure the services of the 19-year-old Spanish international in the summer transfer window.
